The Different Versions of QuickBooks

Chapter 2

In total, there are 8 versions of QuickBooks available today. A summary of these 8 versions is provided below:

Enterprise Solutions

Priced at $2,500, $3,500 with service package, the Enterprise Edition offers 10-user capacity, improved performance, up to 29,000 customers, or 29,000 inventory items. Also includes all the new 2005 features of Pro, Premier and Premier: Accountant Editions. Unfortunately, this version is based on file locking which prohibits most larger companies from really using it with more than 3 users.

Premier: Accountant Edition 2005

Priced at $500, this version provides all features listed below, plus multiple journal entry views, and reports with one-line transaction summaries.

Premier: Contractor Edition 2005

Priced at $500, this version provides all features listed below plus strong job costing such as new reports and change orders.

Premier Edition 2005

Priced at $500, this version provides all features listed below plus remote access, enhanced journal entries, analysis tools, inventory assemblies, sales order tracking, forecasting, business planning, etc.  It does not provide strong job costing such as new reports and change orders.

Pro Edition 2005

Priced at $300, this version provides all features listed below plus multi-user access, supports custom price levels, job costing, integration to Microsoft Office, customizable statements, etc.  It does not provide remote access, enhanced journal entries, analysis tools, inventory assemblies, sales order tracking, forecasting, etc.

Basic Edition 2005

Priced at $200, this version of QuickBooks is the most basic version. It does not support custom price levels, job costing, integration to Microsoft Office, multi-user access, customizable statements, etc.  There is no reason we can think of where anyone should be using this version.

Online Edition

Priced at $20 per month for 3 users, $30 per month for 10 users, and $50 per month for 25 users, the online edition is a new product built similarly to the other QuickBooks versions, but not based on the other QuickBooks versions. You will find many differences and this version does not support purchase orders, job costing, inventory tracking, assemblies, sales orders, etc.  However, it does support many users and multiple locations.

Pro 5.0 for Mac

Advanced tools for fast & easy financial management...now for Mac OS X!

QuickBooks Point of Sale

Priced at $665. Rings up sales like a cash register, tracks inventory, stores customer information, transfers summarized sales data and inventory asset account values into QuickBooks, works with Intuit-tested point of sale hardware - receipt printer, cash drawer, bar code scanner and credit card swipe – which can be purchased for an additional $650.
